I love how you actually put the destroyer in there. Those 8 destroyers and the light cruiser Yahagi are always forgotten. I saw a documentary on Youtube recently about the Yamato. I was utterly displeased with how they refused to mention Musashi, Shinano or Yahagi.
In the 2005 movie, you get to see some ships fighting against the airstrikes in the background, but that's most likely because they copied the scenes from the battle of Leyte Gulf earlier in the movies.
And besides, this scenario is not entirely impossible, since we don't know exactly what the ships did. You can see them turning away from each other. They likely almost collided.
Great picture! I'm curious if ships ever sailed that close together in battle though. They'd have a very hard time maneuvering to avoid bombers and torpedoes that way. Then again, the picture would be a lot less impressive if you tried to space everything out.
